Built on the pool deck

Run the whole meet from one screen.

Paper meet sheets are write-once and unsearchable. Deck Buddy keeps the same at-a-glance shape a coach already reads — but every mark becomes data.

iPad on deck · phone for swimmers · computer for meet entry

Animated preview of the Deck Buddy coach screen: on the left, the heat racing now and the heat that just finished; on the right, the full meet sheet with the current heat highlighted. Places fill in as swimmers finish, then the heat rolls into Previous and the sheet advances to the next event.

Write-once

A meet sheet gets one clean pass, at the table, before the meet starts. Every mark after that — a DQ, a drop, a note about a rough start — gets squeezed into a margin or just remembered.

Unsearchable

Ask how your 9–10 girls did on turns this season and paper has no answer. The information exists. It's on forty sheets in a binder, if it's anywhere at all.

Gone by August

End of season, the binder goes in a box. Next year's coach starts from nothing — no history, no trend, no idea what the team actually needed to work on.

Anatomy of the deck

1

On deck

The next heat. Lane 1 to the highest lane, in an auto-sliding strip. Toggle between the whole heat and just your swimmers. Tap a card for that swimmer.

2

In the water

The heat racing now. Collapsed until you hit Start — starting expands it and arms tap-to-place. Heat nav on either side, a red End button, and it auto-advances once every lane has a time.

3

Previous

The heat that just finished. Shows heat place — full-event places wait until the whole event is done. Nothing about a finished heat is locked; it's still clickable.

Timing modes

Runs without a timing system today. With one, later.

No timing system Working now

Hit Start, then tap swimmers' names as they finish. Each tap assigns the next heat place. Heat place only, no times. No keyboard, no stopwatch, no typing — you can do it while watching the water.

  1. 1 Hit Start — the heat arms for tap-to-place.
  2. 2 Tap each swimmer's name as they touch the wall.
  3. 3 The heat closes itself once every lane has a place.

Connected to a timing system Planned

Deck Buddy can't talk to a timing system yet — it's a feature that comes later. When it lands, the timing system becomes the source of truth: places and times come from it and touchpad splits arrive on their own, leaving you with tagging and notes.

The tag engine

The part paper can never do.

Every tag you drop on deck rolls up automatically — team-wide, cut by age group, by stroke, and over time.

"Turns is our #1 issue across 9–10s."

That's Monday's practice plan. Watch the bar shrink after you coach it.

One system, built for where you're standing.

Coach deck

iPad recommended, phone works too

Standing, moving, wet hands, sun on the screen, between heats. Built for tap-to-place and big targets, not typing.

Swimmer side

Phone

Sitting under a canopy. Up next, results so far, best times, and a progression chart for the off day.

Meet entry

Computer or iPad

Sitting, keyboard available. Dense forms are fine here — this is where the program and results get loaded in.

On-deck view now keeps On deck, In the water and Previous visible at once; scratches and no-shows are tracked separately; results import merges straight onto a loaded program.
